Wholly Waffles is proud to use traditional baking methods and locally sourced ingredients to bring you the homely flavours of Holland.

Founding

Wholly Waffles was founded in late 2022 by Timothy, a Dutchman, who has made Scotland his adopted home.

After noticing an absence of Dutch representation in the Scottish Capital City’s diverse food scene, he traveled back to the Netherlands to learn the craft of baking his favourite comfort food: Caramel Waffles.

Timothy took what he had learned in Holland back to Scotland. He imported the finest Dutch waffle equipment and adapted a distinctly Dutch recipe to local British produce. Wholly Waffles remains the only UK business that makes Stroopwafels fresh to order.

Wholly Waffles works with a variety of clients to bring Dutch Stroopwafels to Scottish events. Previous partners include the Edinburgh Food Festival, The Neighbourgood Market and the Edinburgh Christmas Market. We have been mentioned by The Scotsman, Edinburgh Live, Edinburgh Evening News and The National.

Sustainability

Sustainability is one of our core values. We thrive to minimise our effects on the environment by limiting food waste, sourcing our ingredients locally in the UK, and only using recyclable or biodegradable product packaging.

What is a Caramel Waffle?

Caramel Waffles — also known as Stroopwafels — are a quintessential Dutch treat. They consist of a warm, diamond-patterned waffle, which is sliced in half and expertly filled with a smooth caramel sauce.

Caramel Waffles are an invention of Gouda, a Dutch city famous for its high-quality cheeses. It is said that Caramel Waffles were first baked in the late 18th or early 19th century, however much remains unclear about their exact time and place of origin.
